Track Pants Are the New It Pants

Image
Comfortable and Stylish Track pants are trending — and I love it! Track pants have finally received the elevation they deserve. They’re such an easy and versatile piece. Track pants can be worn with sneakers (duh) but with heels, boots, ballet flats, and crocs. No matter the footwear, track pants (especially wide-leg ones) will make your outfit chic and cool. I’m a sporty type of gal. I prefer pants over skirts. Track pants (sweatpants) have been my go-to for the past few years. They’re easy to slip on, comfortable, and can be worn with any top. Since track pants are trending, their styling has reached new levels. Women wear track pants with blazers, vests, blouses, and crop tops. I prefer to wear my track pants with boots or sneakers, especially my Adidas Sambas. As mentioned before, I like the wide-leg track pants style. They add a bit of chic to an outfit and give the wearer permission to dress them up or down. If I don’t like wearing a hoodie or sweatshirt, I’ll wear a denim ...

Dress for Yourself — Not for Anyone Else

Image
You are your own runway. Strut! I hate looking like everyone else. While I like styles and trends, I always try to put my own spin on what the masses wear. When I was a teen, I worked my first job in high school. It was in a Junior Achievement Program that helped students become entrepreneurs. Once we completed the program, we received two hundred dollars. For a poor city kid being raised by a single mom, that two hundred dollars felt like two million. When I received the money, I was over the moon. I never had so much money in my life! I kept a piggy bank with pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters — but paper money was hard to come by. If my mom wasn’t paying bills or buying groceries, she had to clothe my brother and me. There wasn’t much left over, even for my mom. With the money, my first instinct was to spend it. I wanted to go shopping in Downtown Crossing. At the time, the trendiest stores were Tello’s, Rainbows, and Filene’s/Filene’s Basement. Other stores included Marsha...

Fall Fashion Essentials 2024

Image
Fall Fashion Essentials: What You Need Fall is a season of change, not only in the weather but also in our wardrobes. As the leaves turn, so do our fashion choices. While trends come and go, there are a few essential pieces that every fall wardrobe should include. These basics provide a versatile foundation that can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. A classic trench coat is a timeless investment piece for fall. This versatile outerwear can be paired with jeans and a sweater for a casual look or a tailored suit for a more formal occasion. Look for a trench coat in a neutral color like beige or camel to ensure it goes with everything in your wardrobe. Another essential item for fall is a cozy knit sweater. Whether you prefer a chunky cable knit or a delicate lace cardigan, a shirt is a must-have for staying warm and stylish. Opt for a versatile color like gray, black, or navy that can be easily paired with other pieces. No fall wardrobe is complete without a pair of comfo...

Get Down With Chocolate Brown

Image
A Rich Color Trending for Fall 2024 Fal's official start is three weeks away, and another color trend is in the spotlight. Chocolate Brown (think a Hershey Bar) is having its moment. People have been buzzing about deep reds like Burdundy and medium greens like Sea Foam. Chocolate Brown is a versatile color that can work well with other colors like red and green, black and white, and orange and yellow. I've always loved chocolate brown because it feels warm and chic. A monochromatic look, which is still trending for Fall, looks smooth and effortless. Chocolate Brown is one of the few colors that can be worn in abundance without appearing overdone.  Depending on your style, accessories can be minimal or maximal. I like to pair gold with Chocolate Brown. Depending on the piece of clothing, I would wear large gold hoops, bracelets, and rings. A silver watch balances out the gold.  Here are some articles about the Chocolate Brown color trend:  **REPOST*** Five ways to we...

Burgundy: Trending for Fall 2024

Image
Here are Some Pieces I Like: Burgundy, a dark shade of red, is trending for Fall 2024. I’ve worn the color on and off for many years, but this is the first year I’ve seen it in tons of retailers, from Anthropologie to Zara. Retailers follow the burgundy color from the runway to the store. Here are some pieces that I’d love in my closet: Burgundy is a rich, deep, dark red that is definitely a Fall/Winter color. It would pair well with a rich brown or black. You could also wear white with burgundy—but not too much white, just a hint of it. Overall, burgunday is the color for Fall 2024.

The Trending Fall Colors for 2024

From the Runway to the Retailer to Your Closet Photo Source: China Hemp Fabric As we head into mid-August, retailers ramp up for back-to-school shopping and fall-winter clothing trends. Many retailers have been stocking their shelves with fall’s trending colors since late June. More will come as August wraps up and we enter September. Every season, there’s a color palette that designers use to craft their fashions and present them on the runway. Once that happens, retailers begin stocking up on items that mirror those designs, especially the color palette. Once the clothing has been mass-produced, they’re shipped off to retailers like H&M, Primark, Macy’s, Old Navy, and Target. It’s Ok If Your Style Isn’t for Everyone

Image
Your Style is For You — and that’s all that matters! When it comes to style, just like almost everything else, everyone has an opinion. Your dress should be longer. Your dress should be shorter. Your shirt needs to be more plain. Your shirt is too colorful. Those shoes don’t go with that outfit. That outfit doesn’t go with those shoes. It can be very frustrating when people comment about your outfits. Although the comments are wanted and weren’t asked for, people make them anyway, regardless of how the comment is received. Some people gave in to the critics and tried to adjust their style. I’m not a people-pleaser (at least not anymore), and my closet needs my attention, not everyone else’s opinions. Here are some more thoughts on style: It’s perfectly normal and acceptable for not everyone to appreciate your style. Fashion and aesthetics are inherently subjective, shaped by individual experiences, cultural backgrounds, and personal preferences. What appeals to one person...

Tanks and Tees: A Summer Staple

Image
As of this writing, July is almost over. In a couple of days, August will arrive. But that doesn’t mean that summer is over. Summer is still the season well into September. So what better way to enjoy the warm days than with a class tank top or tee shirt? Tees and Tanks have a long history in the fashion world. They’re a staple in any wardrobe. They can be worn casually or elegantly. These tops can be found at the playground, a gala, and everywhere. A tank or tee can be chic and cosmopolitan with the right accessories. Here is what some fashion magazines say about tanks and tees: ***REPOST**** The 2024 Way to Wear Spring's Chicest Wardrobe Essential You might already have one in your closet. Clothing Tags Have Gotten Out of Hand

Image
Too Many Tags Wind up in landfills As I was getting ready to start my day on Saturday, I pulled out a pair of cargo pants. I had purchased them from Marshalls. Tan in color, the cargo pants were made by a brand called D.Jeans. I like this brand because their jeans contain stretchy material and always fit me well. The problem wasn’t the pants — it was the tags. There were about six of them in total. Besides the price tag, there was the company’s tag, the size sticker, the materials patch on the back of the pants, a tag on the waist, and a tag attached by a string with a larger version of the company’s name. There were too many tags! I understand that clothing tags are a part of the company’s marketing, but the number of tags on my pants was excessive. It takes time away from the getting ready process. As an avid shopper, I remember a time when clothing had only one tag, maybe two tags max. Now, I spend several minutes cutting and peeling tags off my clothes. Most retailers wher...

Jorts - The Jean Shorts of the Season

Image
The History of Jorts: From Workwear to Fashion Statement Jean shorts, commonly known as "jorts," have experienced a fascinating evolution from their practical origins to their current status as a staple in contemporary fashion. Their history is intertwined with the development of denim and the changing trends in workwear and casual attire. Let's explore the origins, cultural significance, and modern adaptations of jorts, highlighting their enduring popularity. Origins of Denim The story of jorts begins with denim, a sturdy cotton fabric that originated in the French city of Nîmes in the 18th century. Known as "serge de Nîmes," this fabric was later shortened to "denim." By the late 19th century, denim had found its way to the United States, where it became synonymous with durable workwear. Levi Strauss, a German immigrant, played a pivotal role in popularizing denim in America by creating the first pair of blue jeans in 1873 for miners and l...

ANOTHER SUMMER STAPLE - THE SUNDRESS

Image
It Can't Be Summer Without This Easy, Breezy Piece The History of the Sundress The sundress, an iconic staple of women's fashion, embodies the essence of warm weather with its light, breezy design and vibrant patterns. Its history is a reflection of changing societal norms, technological advancements in fabric production, and evolving fashion trends. Origins and Early Development The sundress, as we recognize it today, began to take shape in the early 20th century. Before this period, women's fashion was dominated by restrictive and layered garments, including corsets and heavy fabrics, which were ill-suited for the summer heat. The push for more practical and comfortable clothing gained momentum during the 1920s with the flapper movement, which celebrated freedom and self-expression. Dresses became shorter and less structured, laying the groundwork for the sundress. Mid-20th Century: The Golden Era The sundress truly came into its own during the mid-20th century...
