My Fashion Resolutions
A Vow to My Style
With 2024 almost upon us, this is the time when people are reflecting on the current year and making plans for the year ahead. Every year, I resolve to do more with my weight, writing career, and money. I get off t a great start and then by March all my resolutions are a fuzzy memory. I restarted my resolve until faced with the end of the year and another new year approaching—time to end this cycle.
As we enter 2024, I resolve to focus my attention on two areas — fashion and money. I need money to buy fashion. I need fashion to cement my place as a fashion blogger and critic. I want to be in more fashion circles and to gain entry into those circles takes money. My sense of style is still evolving but I know what I like — and what I don’t. My clothing needs to represent me in all places and all spaces.
The palette for my fashion will remain colorful. Even when I wear earth tones like tan and brown there will be more color mixed in. When I wear black, there won’t just be white or silver but pinks and purples and bright blues. I want to try more monochromatic looks as well as mixing different shades of one color — like purple. If I have on a dark purple dress, I’ll add a lilac-colored jacket or sweater over it. I’ll layer various shades of red from hair accessories to footwear and everything in between.
I also resolve to save money by spending less on fashion. I have to shop in my closet. What’s in my closet can be re-worn with new twists. Pattern-mixing will be on rotation. Polka dots with stripes and abstract lines and splotches all in one outfit. I want to dress like I’m going somewhere even if that somewhere is to the corner store.
I resolve to rid myself of clothes that no longer bring me joy. I plan to make money by selling clothes on thrift sites kike Poshmark and Depop. I also want to design my clothes. I want to add patches, sewing patterns, and paint to my clothes. I want my clothes to have a new look — without spending more money to do so.
There’s so much that I want to do in 2024. But I need to make a plan, create a strategy, and action steps. I must not do things all at once. I’ll get overwhelmed and stop doing things. I want to be consistent with my fashion and my money. I want both to grow.
