The 6 Biggest Bag Trends of Fall 2024
There’s a lot of color and a little bit of chaos
By Tara GonzalezPublished: Aug 16, 2024, 9:42 AM EDT
Wearing your bag — like actually wearing it — is the most significant bag trend for fall. Gone are the days when people feared setting their bags on the sidewalk or even the subway floor. Scuff marks are now worn like a sign of pride. Wine stains à la Olsen — a look the twins popularized with their worn-in Balenciaga city bags in the 2010s — are even better. Luxury bags don’t have to be precious anymore. Just look at how everyone accesses them with fuzzy keychains and beaded friendship bracelets. They’re fun now — not stuffy.
On the Fall 2024 runways, models wore bags overflowing with stuff like a spare pair of shoes or an extra outfit, as at Miu Miu, or carryalls that were intentionally crinkled at Prada and Balenciaga. The bags everyone wants right now are the ones that look like they’re living your life with you and have the marks and personality to prove it.
It is probably the best bag trend of the last couple of seasons because you’re guaranteed to get your cost-per-wear. The It bags from the Fall/Winter 2024–25 runways aren’t meant to be cycled out after one season — they’re the kind you’ll want to carry repeatedly.
Ahead are the six biggest bag trends for the upcoming fall season.
Red continues to dominate the runway as the accent color of choice, but a new shade of green isn’t far behind. In the last couple of seasons, Prada and Miu Miu each offered bags in quirky pea green. It’s not the color you think of when you envision something as serious as a designer suitcase, but as seen on the runways at Gucci and Fendi, it is just as energizing as a pop of scarlet or maroon. If anything, it adds a bit of necessary wackiness, making every look feel unexpected in the best possible way.

5 Key Fall Bag Trends You’re About to See Everywhere
Prepare to fall in love with bag charms.

This year, fall’s biggest bag trends aren’t just covetable — they’re also about rediscovering personal style. The runway shows for fall 2024 used accessories as love letters to functional style: Miu Miu’s overstuffed carryalls reflected how people actually use their everyday bags. Chloé’s studded crescents radiated boho glam and had enough room to hold a fall layer. Coach’s layered charms captured a collective vibe shift away from the pristine and toward the lived-in.
So while it’s fun to keep up with the latest fashion trends — and our editors certainly are — this season is all about you. Love details like extra-long straps, studs, and keychains? So do McQueen, Tory Burch, and Moschino. In the mood for burgundy? You’re in good company with Gucci and Armani. But whether you go for a designer purse or an under-$20 pick from Amazon, wear it with confidence and purpose — that’s the most important bag trend this autumn.
Glamour’s fall bag trends wish list
The Burgundy Stunner: Kate Spade Knott Zip-Top Satchel, $378
The Studded Tote: Madewell Essential Bucket Tote, $198
The Amazon Gem: JW Pei Orla Weave Handbag, $139
The Bow Bag: Lucca Bow Bag, $68
The Cult-Favorite Crescent: Polène Numéro Dix, $580

Chloé’s fall-winter runway was perhaps the most talked-about show of the season, almost singlehandedly heralding boho’s grand comeback — and, by extension, the return of studded bags. Brands such as Acne Studios and Alexander McQueen showed similar accessories, and now everyone from Khaite to Madewell is on board. Dip your toes into the trend with minimal studs from Rebecca Minkoff and Isabel Marant; dive in headfirst with edgy gems from Clare V. and Mango.
This season, a few distinct shapes popped up, including bucket bags and east-west silhouettes. But we’re most excited about crescents, which walked at Loewe and Chloé, among many other runways. The relaxed, practical design lends itself well to everyday carry and fits nicely with the boho renaissance currently taking fashion by storm. (It’s also an excellent alternative to your everyday tote bag.) While these picks won’t stow a laptop, they can handle most everything else — perfect for weekends or nights out.
Grab a bag that fits your style and enjoy the Fall!
